Using Music to Make Good People
Founded in 2011, West Point School of Music (WPSoM) builds on decades of musical excellence, community service, and a deep commitment to empowering young people. Rooted in Chicago’s South Side, we believe every child deserves access to high-quality music education, regardless of their financial circumstances or background.
Our mission is to engage urban youth through music instruction and performance, cultivating artistically connected, socially conscious, and productive adults. Through music, we create opportunities for young people to discover their talents, develop their confidence, and build the skills they need to thrive in school, in their communities, and throughout life.
More Than Music Education
At West Point School of Music, we see music as a powerful tool for personal growth and positive change. Learning an instrument teaches discipline, patience, creativity, and perseverance. Playing in an ensemble teaches students how to listen, collaborate, respect one another, and work toward a shared goal.
Our programs provide students with meaningful opportunities to learn, rehearse, perform, and grow alongside their peers. From concert band and steel pan to other musical learning experiences, we nurture a sense of belonging while helping students develop their artistic voices. By removing financial barriers and creating welcoming spaces for learning, we help ensure that talent, curiosity, and determination have room to flourish.
Building Brighter Futures Through Music
Our work extends beyond the classroom. We strive to help students become responsible, confident, and socially conscious individuals who understand the value of hard work, community, and giving back. Every rehearsal, lesson, and performance is an opportunity to develop not only a better musician, but a better person.
Through partnerships with schools, families, educators, and community organizations, West Point School of Music continues to expand access to music education on the South Side of Chicago. We are proud to create pathways for young people to pursue their interests, strengthen their academic and personal development, and imagine possibilities beyond the limitations of their circumstances.
We believe music has the power to connect people, celebrate culture, bridge communities, and inspire lasting change. At West Point School of Music, we use music to make good people and we remain committed to helping every student discover the possibilities within themselves.
