We are excited to invite you to our highly anticipated
Canboulay Music Festival!
Canboulay Music Festival is a one-day outdoor celebration held during Juneteenth weekend, honoring the rich cultural heritage of the African diaspora through music, dance, food, and crafts. Hosted on the campus of West Point School of Music (1233 W. 109th Place, Chicago, IL), the inaugural festival centers African drumming traditions rooted in African American and Afro-Caribbean culture.
Headlined by Chicago’s Own Epic Steel Orchestra, the festival will feature live performances from artists across Chicago, along with a Small Business Marketplace and a Taste of Diaspora food hall spotlighting local small business vendors.
Inspired by the legacy of emancipation, the event connects Caribbean and American freedom narratives through the soul of rhythmic music. Join us in celebrating the joy, struggle, and resilience that have defined Black communities for centuries.

Epic Steel Orchestra
Epic Steel began in 2010 playing the indigenous steel drums of Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies. This energetic group is committed to performing calypso, the genre of music that gave birth to the steel drums in its native Trinidad. The Epic Steel performers bring pleasantry and accessibility to this complex musical style and they demonstrate great flexibility and musical chops as they engage soca, reggae, latin, jazz, marches, classical, and contemporary music.
The group has been described as “every bit the match in stage presence and technique” as that of well-known performing concert bands. They demonstrate the infectious and intricate beats of Calypso and the subtlety that is possible in performing Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Flight of the Bumblebee”.
This coming June, Epic Steel will bring their vibrant sound to the Canboulay Music Festival, where they will perform a dynamic set showcasing the full spectrum of their musical range. The festival appearance marks another exciting milestone in their ongoing mission to celebrate and share the culture of steel pan music with audiences far and wide.
