Practice Logs Due On Saturdays

Dear West Pointers, (Parents and Students)

Your child have been given a practice log that must be filled out each week and brought back to band rehearsal on Saturdays.  This is important as it would be impossible for students to develop as musicians without consistent, at home, practice.  The expectation is that your child spend a minimum of 30 minutes per day on their instruments.  Parents will be required to sign the log before it is turned in.  The logs will be collected each Saturday at 9:30 am.

WPSOM Practice Log

All students must turn in a practice log at every lesson.

Practice logs MUST include a parent/guardian signature.

Start on the day that you receive your log.

Do not record practice sessions prior to this date.

Minimum practice requirements are 30 minutes each day.

The amount of time you spend practicing is not as important as how often you practice. For example, it would be more beneficial to play for 10-minute Mon-Friday as opposed to 60 minutes in one day.

Grading:

4 points – Practicing log turned in every week with practice beyond minimum requirement completed.

3 points – Practice log turned in every week with minimum practice requirement completed.

2 points – Practice log turned in every week with minimum practice requirement not always met.

1 point – Practice log rarely turned in, minimum practice requirement rarely met.

Logs should include all weekly band session that your student attends as well as the private practice done at home.  All students who consistently turn in practice logs and exceed the 30 minute per day practice requirement will be rewarded with a special trip at the end of the school year.   My promise is that this will be a trip that no student will want to miss. There will be no exceptions to the rule. If you would like to receive the reward, you must do the work.  The first log is due this Saturday, January 30, at 9:30 a.m.

Happy practicing!

Mr. Champion
