West Point School of Music provides musical instruction to disadvantaged youth in some of Chicago’s toughest south and west side neighborhoods. We offer these youth a life-changing alternative to the violence and despair they witness daily in the form of gangs, crime, and drugs. Through music, our students can dream of a brighter future and have hope for a better tomorrow.
Playing a musical instrument significantly enhances the brainstem’s sensitivity to speech sounds. This relates to encoding skills involved with music and language. Experience with music at a young age can “fine-tune” the brain’s auditory system.
